Crap plant ..Chinese Tree
Native Origin & Distribution:
Native to the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, China, Korea, and Japan, it has naturalized in the U.S. from Virginia to Arkansas, south to Texas and Florida.
Appearance:
This deciduous tree or shrub features showy flowers with crimped petals in various colors (white, pink, mauve, purple, red), blooming in summer. It also has distinctive smooth, pinkish-gray, mottled bark that exfoliates annually, and leaves that turn vibrant yellow, orange, and red in autumn.
Growing Conditions:
Crape Myrtles thrive in full sun and heat, preferring moist but well-drained soil.
Popularity:
It's a popular landscaping plant, especially in the Southern United States, earning it the nickname "Lilac of the South".
